2PM Nichkhun Incident

On July 24th 2012 1530hrs(Korean Standard Time), “Thai Prince” Nichkhun Buck Horvejkul (닉쿤), was involved in a minor car accident under the influence of alcohol.

Nichkhun’s blood alcohol limit was measured at 0.056% (the Korean blood alcohol limit is 0.050%). The victim and Nichkhun was not seriously injured.

However, the incident caused a controversy.

His individual interview for MBC’s “Idol Star Olympics” was edited out. He was also edited out of Caribbean Bay’s homepage.

Two days later, Nichkhun tweeted an apology to his fans in English, “ would like to write this letter of apology for such an irresponsible act. To the injured person, his family, the people of Korea, my fans, JYPE family and staffs, 2PM members, and all the people this situation has affected. I have betrayed the ones who have given me their love and support, the love and support I don’t deserve with such behavior. I feel the need to take some time off to re-think about my action and myself, to make myself a better person and never again repeat the same mistake. I am truly ashamed that I have disappointed so many, and I am deeply sorry.”

His family in Thailand showed their support by posting a photo through his brother, Nichan’s twitter.

However, many people find the picture and words insensitive towards the victim, which caused Nichan to apologize to the injured person, his family, and the people of Korea.

On July 27th, one of Nichkhun’s friend, Siwon of Super Junior tweeted in regards of the incident.

“A few days ago korean idol group 2PM member Nichkhun was involved in a traffic accident while drinking and driving which is an absolutely illegal action. To this point Nickhun should regret and refrain from committing such actions ever again. I believe he is examining himself more because of this accident. Nickhun is a symbol of the Thai dream of success and has significance for both Korea and Thailand. Let us give him time to reflect from which he will emerge a better and reborn person. Thank you.. ”

According to JYP Entertainment, Nichkhun will not be attending JYP Nation Concert in Japan and Korea in August, as well as JYP Fan’s Day; according to Nichkhun’s wishes.
